soooo.....I haven't been playing guild wars over the last 3-4 weeks due to a severe lack of time, so yesterday I decided to kick back for a change, take all the time in the world (or the night) and just look what's awaiting me.

after about 15 minutes I was in drok's to look for any random group to do, well, whatever they wanted to do...
it was then that I made the mistake of starting the following conversation (I'll just call the other guy xxx for this):
(oh and I should also mention, I play a female ranger, wearing 15k druids vest and leggings, combined with regular 1.5k druids boots and gloves. it's not that I can't afford the rest, I just think it looks a bit better this way. and I figure it's a role playing game (sorta) and I don't wanna look like everybody else.) anyway, to the conversation (partly censored):

xxx (Trade Ch.): WTB Req 8 15^50% Chaos and Storm Bow
Me (whispering)(thinking he got it mixed up , trying to help): try „shadow bow“, there's no such thing as a „chaos bow“

Me (wh.) (not thinking the same thing he does): it's „shadow bow“, not „chaos bow“
xxx (wh.): said chaos, plain,...there's only a chaos axe and if ur stupid enough to think I said chaos bow then ur

Me: not replying anything, thinking: great, trying to help, getting insulted, guess I'll just let it go

(as you may have noted the only one having spoken over the last 6 lines was him)
Me (wh.)(now thinking: okay, I wanna get this straight, tell him why I thought he was mixing something up): you said „chaos and storm bow“, which gramatically implies that you mean a chaos bow and a storm bow.
xxx (wh.): actually it doesn't
xxx (wh.): chaos and storm bow arnt together
xxx (wh.): I left out axe and anyone not stupid would know it's a chaos axe
xxx (wh.): because the only item in the game that has chaos in it is a chaos axe.
Me thinking: I know, that's why I adressed you in the first place, because I thought you mixed it up

now my question is: is there anyone else out there who would have (like myself) immediately lost his or her entire motivation to continue playing? I know I shouldn't care, but that kind off behaviour just really annoys me. I watched a movie instead.

the only mistake you made was after the first response not switching districts to shake the jerk.

Don't take it personally. Most people in on-line games don't know proper grammar or sentence structuring, so it's entirely his fault you'd think he ment chaos bow. Just report him.

Lol, on more accounts than one have I encountered people with this much limited view as to what "trying to help" means lol. Each time I've found myself just putting them on the ignore list, because they just ramble on afterwards and keep making a bigger jerk of themselves :/. Even though it's a game, it's still infuriating when people do this lol. Even if it was a friendly gesture as to telling the person they might be confused... =*(

C'est la vie. There's jerks in all walks of life. However, if I'd allowed every single spelling and grammatical error get to me, I'd have gone insane a long time ago (English and journalism major, me).

However, I still do want to take out a very large shotgun and start blasting away and putting large holes in everything whenever I see people use an apostrophe to indicate plurals. Apostrophe abuse FTL!

yeah, but did you notice they changed it after all that ass-biting they gave you?

personaly, i leve the trade chanel closed..and the normal chat chanel, unless im using my pre sear helper....infact, i hardly ever use chat chanels anymore...

you probably did the right thing afterwards (watching a film to calm down rather than doing someithng equaly dim and childish just to get back at them)
just take a deep breath and pop a choc in you mouth and then go do somethyng that you like ^^ i sometimes retreat to pre sear to avoid the heavy types hehe

people like that doesn't want to get help, because they allready know everything thats worth knowing in the entire universe, you can't help them

As for that guy, you're going to bump into them sooner or later, it's inevitable considering it's the internet and furthermore the game is can be purchased by just about anyone (no credit card necessary)

Best not to get involved in flame wars to begin with, screenshot/report and walk away. It's better for your health.

I have been lucky enough to not meet any people like that. I have met people like that on forums and they sure are a pain.

I came across many nice ppl, but yes you can expect in games with no monthly fee these stuff...

This always makes me think of paladins, I don't know why but it just does..

meh i found 90% of GW players to be jerks way back in May. So I've had local chat turned off since then. Find a nice guild and group with them or henchies (i party with henchies more than my guild now lol) and turn local chat off. Saves a ton of hassle. And seriously, you won't miss the moronic insults that await you in every town

That's why I sell everything to the merchant/traders, play alone, and will only PUG if I hear a group that has potential. Otherwise, I just can't be bothered to deal with other people.

Yeah I so often have to turn off 'all' chat, even trade chat...
Been there, best bet find a decent guild or reliable people for your friends list

I have tons like that but mostly PUG related, I normally can do so much more with the henchmen that won't retreat and take lava baths than PUGs, but some missions like Titans make it even more difficult.

I think every cap (outside those arising on the course of a mission or not too far off to the side) for every character I've gotten to 20 (all eles, necros, warriors, and a bunch of their secondaries) I've capped with henchmen, or brought a friend a long with all henchmen to do.

A little OT but yeah in trade and play and pvp you'll find 'em.

That said on a fire island mission that went bad I found in a PUG a ranger that worked so well with my ele we did hells precipe start to finish us with just henchmen, capping along the way and doing the bonus. I already had the mission and the cap I needed but it was fun.

So sometimes you'll find good players have you thinking the other way.
But yeah I've done the vast majority solo and merchant dump sales as well.
